James Howard Kunstler thinks the world oil production may peak as early as 2005, and that very soon–in the next 10-15 years, the US will be in dire straits energy-wise (and therefore financially, socially, and so on.) I have heard of this peak oil theory, but I had not thought it would happen so quickly.

PArt of me says — that needs to happen ASAP, because maybe that will push the world to face its dangerous dependency and lack of concern. Course theres another part of me that says — bummer, thats bad for everyone. And then still one more chunk of me says — that guys wrong.
I’m all for people Waking Up and getting off their asses and finally, seriously pursue alternative energy sources.
bri–100% agreement. but i’d prefer we do it before we get into MORE oil wars (is this possible) and before we start eating our neighbors because our agriculture industry is dependant on oil. ugh. getting our gov’t to care about something not in it’s face? difficult. (and you have to ask: just how in-your-face do our environmental problems have to be before the gov’t (and frankly the country as a whole) will get off their asses? remember, this is a gov’t that denies global warming is really happening. oy oy oy.
bm–i am so there with you and your multiple personality.
how’s this for me commenting on my own comments at greater length than the original posting.
